This single volume multi-authored textbook is aimed
for all clinicians responsible for the initial evaluation of patients
presenting with a neuro-ophthalmic problem. It is ideally suited to
the general ophthalmologist but would also be of benefit to neurologists,
neurosurgeons and others.
The book is divided into 4 sections. Section I covers the Neuro-Ophthalmic
Examination. Section II handles Neuro-ophthalmic Symptoms and
Signs and here the information is presented in eleven chapters.
Each chapter pertaining to a major presenting symptom or sign. Each
chapter is then broken down into broad categories and within these
categories individual conditions are discussed. Given the nature of
the book there is some overlap and duplication between chapters, although
as each chapter is by a different author this overlap of information
only enhances the text.
Section III deals with Neuro-Ophthalmic diagnoses and gives
a succinct outline of the diagnosis and management of all common neuro-ophthalmic
conditions, including many of the rarer ones as well. The photos and
figures are well chosen and material is adequately referenced and
sometimes offers suggested readings. The editors have done an excellent
job in keeping the layout uniform throughout the book.
Section IV is six chapters covering Neuro-Ophthalmic Procedures
including ancillary electrophysiological testing, lumbar puncture
and neuro imaging.
This book would be a handy and quick reference guide for any ophthalmologist
who maybe regularly seeing neuro-ophthalmic cases.
