This would be a useful book to add to Libraries. The rather note-book style is excellent for people for The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists Part II exam. The illustrations are generally of good quality. The section on HIV and its complications is therapeutically out of date in an area which is moving too fast for any book to be up to date, so this is hardly a gross disadvantage. Some of the therapeutic recommendations would raise eyebrows amongst staff of this Hospital, and don't fit with local practice. In many cases, though, this is simply axiomatic of there being more than one way to skin a cat. However, the recommendation to use systemic chloramphenicol would surely cause palpitations in anyone concerned about medical defence. The appendix J on documenting corneal disease reproduced from an earlier BJO has tried in the past in this Hospital, and a simplified version is what seems to be much more practical and to be used by the Corneal Clinic. Overall, this book would be a useful addition to our Library. Prof. Hector Maclean This is available for purchase through the Library's Bookshop Service, or available for loan through the library.
