GENERAL AND REFERENCE ENQUIRIES  [TOP]
  • The Information Help Desk is staffed during office hours to answer your queries
  • Reference inquiries are also received by telephone, e-mail, post and fax . Services provided  include: Document Supply service; bibiographic database searches (eg Medline, Cochrane, Pubmed, EMBASE databases via the Library's Electronic Resources Portal) and Internet searches; Past examination papers; Advice to authors; Bibliographic services.
LOANS, OVERDUES & INTERLIBRARY LOANS/DOCUMENT SUPPLY SERVICES  [TOP]
  • You can request references, interlibrary loans and have your loans checked out at the Library's front desk. Journals are not loaned.
  • Interlibrary loans are for when an item requested by a user is not held within the Library. This includes texts, audio visual items and photocopies of articles or book chapters To apply for an interlibrary loan, user must fill out a copyright declaration form (doubles as a request form).  See our Document Supply page for more details. There is a charge for this service.
AUDIOVISUAL COLLECTION  [TOP]
  • Includes DVDs, CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, CDs and videocassettes. Please search the library's catalogue
  • Most material is available for loan, though some restrictions may apply.
  • All audio visual items are lent to onsite users for 7 days and to interstate and country users for 3 weeks.

This is the gateway to valuable e-resources of electronic journals, e-books and databases accessible to hospital staff, RANZCO Fellows/members and other authorised users. It is customised for the Ronald Lowe library by Health Communication Network (HCN).

     
Link to Clinicians Health Channel   Access to Clinicians Health Channel is available for hospital employees in the library by clicking on this icon on the library homepage. You will need to register for your Athens log-in for the Clinician's Health Channel.

 

CORE TEXTS  [TOP]
  • Most of the books on these shelves are for loan except those marked "Not for Loan".
PHOTOCOPYING & PRINTING  [TOP]
  •  Printing from all the computers goes to this machine, as well as the photocopying.  You need a card to use it.  If you don't have one ask library staff for more details.
  • If you need to download a document please bring your USB flash drive to the library with you.
BOOKS, JOURNALS & REFERENCE  [TOP]
  • Books published after 1978 are kept in the main library. These books are available for loan. Bound journals are filed in alphabetical order by title.
  • Reference Collection - includes dictionaries, yearbooks, exam papers and other useful information. These are kept at the beginning of the book collection. They are not for loan.  
LATEST JOURNALS & NEWSPAPERS  [TOP]
  • The most recent issues are on display in the seating area along with today's copy of The Age and The Australian.  These papers are kept for one week only.
OLDER JOURNALS  [TOP]
  • Older journals and little used titles are kept in the compactus
ARCHIVES ROOM  [TOP]
  • Old editions of certain ophthalmology and otolaryngological texts are kept in the locked Archives Room. Users wishing to access them should ask library staff.

Note : Between the Archives room and the Reading Room is an emergency exit door. This door is permanently alarmed and must only be used in an emergency.

READING ROOM  [TOP]
  • A quiet study area. It includes a Museum display of Ophthalmological artefacts as well as a television, video and DVD player with cordless headphones.
