Vision-e-net 1/2007

Welcome to the first 2007 issue of Vision-e-Net, the library's weekly newsletter. Throughout the year, specific services, resources and news items that would be of value to library clients, will be highlighted.

RESOURCES

Electronic Resources Portal

This gateway to numerous electronic resources on Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology and other relevant biomedical information, was launched in October 2006. Usage statistics increased dramatically over the last 3 months and is indicative of its popularity. Its main objective is to facilitate seamless access to electronic journals that the library subscribes to, other online publications that have been selected for relevancy and databases including those provided through the Clinician Health Channel. No longer are library members required to remember multiple passwords for journals that they are authorised to access.

Please email us at: library@eyeandear.org.au for access details.

SERVICES

Chasing the Sun- After-hours reference service

It is useful to know that a professional librarian is available to attend to any urgent clinical reference query that you may have, after office hours. This service is called "Chasing the Sun" as it "takes advantage of global time differences between [UK and Australia] to offer out-of-hours librarian support for clinicians seeking urgently needed information". ¹
We will email the access details to you on request.

Literature Searches (or Mediated Searching)

2005-2006 has seen a 74% increase in library members requesting for literature searches on specific topics. Immediate feedback on the appropriateness and quality of these search results has been encouraging indeed. To request for a literature search, please go to the library website and under "Research and Training", click on the link "Literature search" and fill out a short form.

Training Sessions

Aimed at empowering clinicians and staff to effectively search databases and literature through improved strategies, these sessions are conducted in groups or individually on a one-on-one basis. Bookings are essential and these can be made online on the library website (click on the link "Information Skills Training" under the heading RESEARCH & TRAINING).
