2. LIBRARIES AUSTRALIA

The National Library of Australia has partnered with Australian libraries over the years to produce a database of library holdings or collection including our very own. It's called LIBRARIES AUSTRALIA. The search box is now available on the library homepage [see below].

Benefits of searching Libraries Australia:

2.1 Searching is free.

2.2 Available to all library members.

2.2 If you wish to progress further to requesting a photocopy or loan a book from another library through us, you will need to login at the top right hand-corner of the screen. Please email the library for login details.

Conduct your search and click on the button. If the item is available at RVEEH, the "At Your Library" tab will be in purple. See screen copy below.

Make your selection [copy of an article or loan of a book from another library]. Follow the screen prompts. It will take you to the point where you are able to submit your request to us.
Give us a call on 99298710 or email library@eyeandear.org.au if you require assistance.

2.3 A library close to you may have the book you require, hence, if the same book is not available in our library, you could save an inter- library loan fee of $13.20 by using your local library.

2.4 "It lets you discover what's in Australian libraries" including those of libraries near you!

3.0 LOCAL VIRTUAL REFERENCE SERVICE

To provide speedy, real-time responses to your information/reference enquiries, the library has implemented the Local Virtual Reference Service [LVR] that utilizes web chat technology. This is another service option that's now available for you to take up should you need it. It's useful when you require an immediate response.

Unlike emails where there could be longer delays in responding to enquiries, LVR provides faster real-time chat. Compared to phone chats, LVR is more structured & minimises transmission-related errors.

This service is available from the Hospital INTRANET homepage and all it requires is for you to fill out a very short chat form, type in your query in the "How may we help you" box and click on "Connect".

You will need to stay online & respond to the librarian's replies.
Expect a reply each time the screen refreshes.
On completion, click on the EXIT button.
Please follow the guidelines on the patron page.

LVR is only available within the Eye & Ear Hospital.

Its INTERNET equivalent is the "CHASING THE SUN" service which can be used by library members located externally. For more information, please click on the link on the library homepage. Email the library if you wish to use this service.
