PDA/Mobile Device Resources and Downloads |
The library endeavours to facilitate easy access to information at the point of need. PDA (Personal Digital Assistants) and Smartphones (Mobile phones with data capabilities such as Blackberry, iPhones and other web-enabled phones) have the capability to support ubiquitous access to medical information. They are handheld computers that have gained popularity as a tool for accessing information at the point of need as well as managing daily tasks.
The library’s PDA/Smart phone project aims to promote the culture and use of PDAs and Smartphones (as well as iPhones) in clinical work. |

Brief Guide
Selecting a PDA/SmartPhone
Selecting the right PDA or PDA/smartphone will depend on:
- The functionalities that will meet your needs.
- The range and amount of information you will need to store on your PDA.
- Whether you need a device that will combine a phone, PDA, MP3 player, Email device, Web browser and digital camera,in which case a smartphone would probably be your solution.
- The processing speed.
- The memory size. PDAs normally come with 16 to 64 megabytes of memory. One third of this is normally used for the operating system. Most PDAs come with the basic installation programs.
- PDA/Smartphone resources run on specific operating systems. The three most common operating systems are Palm, Windows Mobile (Previously called Pocket PC), Blackberry and Apple’s iPhones operating system, OS. The choice you make will determine the range of resources you are able to run on your device
